My AHA moment! 190 - 191/365

I am finally catching up with the posting in my blog. I am feeling the positive vibe that I can be able to get back to where I was before. And I am now in the process of catching up with the blogs that I dearly love and follow.

The above statement really sound so positive. I am still crossing my fingers that I'd be able to stick to it and just continue on with what half of this project is all about.

In the meantime, here's to the two post from the Weekend.

190/365 - Brittany

As I have mentioned before, the local meet-up group that I belonged to conducts a photoshoot every month. It's a way for us local photographers to practice portrait session and be able to build up our respective portfolios. It's been my second attendance so far and I especially love this group. It's diversed with amateur and professional, young and old. But regardless of the difference in the length of experience and age, these people never hesitate to share or answer questions when it comes to inquiries about photography: from setting a pose, to the placement of the reflector or borrowing diffuser and even comparing settings.

So last Saturday, our theme was Summer-inspired. We were supposed to do the shoot at a local sunflower farm but because of the number of participants, our organizer did not feel it was a great idea. So, we switched to Plan B. We headed to a local park with ample trees, a creek, great shade and some grasses to add accent to our shots.

Below is one of my favorite. She's Brittany. She's a mom of 3 and has been modeling for prints to other local photographers. She was really fun to work with.

Don't you just love the light? We were under the direct sun. Yes, it was harsh. We were able to solve the problem by using the diffuser that came in with my 5-in-1 reflector.

It's very obvious. Well, I just want to point the obvious in this shot when it comes to coming up with the title.

My main point while taking this shot was to be able to get my favorite type of shot - reflection along with the details of the keys. The set-up was pretty easy. I just laid the keys on top of a granite counter top near the dining table lights. I was hoping to get a light burst from one of the corners of the keys but it's not allowing me to do it. My settings were just off. But since my main intention was to get details from the keys with a close-up feel to it, I settled for this shot.

PS. Did you see the settings? Since we are all learning, I might as well put in the settings for the photos so one can play around with it if you feel like doing a similar shot.

Do you use your 50mm a lot? I find it's my 'forgotten' lens. I rarely use it and then I'm wondering why I don't get to blurry the background as much as I would like to with my kit lens. I think I need to dig it out again:)

@Tara: thank you!!! :)

@Bek: I love my 50 mm. It's always been attached in my camera at all times; whether I am shooting portraits and/or still or just about anything. I have probably taken this off just a couple of times since I got this.

I find I'm having a hard time with the concept of a prime lens. I'm either too close or too far away to achieve the look I'm after.. Maybe I just need more practice..

You are right. It'll need some practice and sometimes cropping too! For as long as you find the sweet spot of your lens, then you'll love it.
