19/365 - Lumpia
Today was our Chief's 25th year of service. As a celebration of the milestone that he has achieved, we had decided to do a potluck. Potluck? For a 25th year celebration? Yes, really! Initially, he doesn't want to do any of those hoopla celebration. His main thing is yes, I've reached 25 years, no biggie deal! But to us, it's special. So, we decided to throw him a "surprise".
A signed up sheet was being passed around a week before the scheduled event. For some reason, I signed up in the appetizer column and wrote lumpia. The last time I remember, I brought lumpia to work and it was a big hit. I did not know that a lot of these people loved it.
But what is lumpia? It's a filipino finger food. It's more like a spring roll only that the content is pure meat. In my recipe, I added shredded carrots and that's about it. It's wrapped in a "lumpia wrapper" and deep fried until golden brown.
On the day of the celebration, I woke up early and started frying the pieces. I know, it was still too early to think about for my next subject. But since I had idle time (waiting for the lumpia to be cooked), I decided to take snaps of some of my finished product. Thus emerged the photo above.
It may look like it's yummy. I am not bragging about it but it did turned out good. I brought about 80+ pieces to work and it was all gone. Well, I wished I wrapped more and made a whole lot.
At the end of the day, I felt good about it. It was my first time to cook Lumpia again. The last time I made a batch was in 2008. I had a bunch in my freezer but I had to give it away because while I was in my early stage of pregnancy, I can not stand the idea nor smell of lumpia. Even when you say the word, it just make me sick. Yes, I know. I am weird like that!
